Fanny - 18 yrs. Date of arrival (1-21-2012) $400 - Fanny is an 18 year old Morgan/Arab cross mare. She stands at 15 hands tall and is sound and healthy. Fanny is broke to ride and is good for the vet and farrier. As far as we know, she has only had one owner her entire adult life. She is very sweet and easy to like, plus a nice looking mare as well. Sadly, her owner passed away about a year or so ago and she has not been worked much since. Being that Fanny has just come into the program, we have not yet had a chance to test ride her or really get to know her at all. We will post updates as we learn more. In the meantime, we think Fanny is going to make someone a wonderful horse with a few weekends of refresher work. Attached Images:

I have a 24 year old Morab who can still keep up with the herd on the trail. Fanny has a lot of years left in her and is cute to boot! I love her markings. |

Stormy and Fanny are both settling in nicely. They are hanging out with each other yet at this point, but a lot of times when horses come in together they do wind up making other friends and sometimes even splitting up eventually when they do make those friends. We will keep you all updated as we learn more about both Stormy and Fanny.
Here is a picture of them today, 1/23/2012, when it was still snowing a bit, trotting out to pasture. You would never know that they are 18, they could easily pass for 10.

Update: 1-28-2012 We made time to work in a test ride on Fanny last night. She did very well, even better than expected, especially considering that she has not been ridden in at least a year, probably more. She gave us no attitude at all and did everything asked of her without complaint. She certainly seems like a solid, hard-working gal who knows when its work time. Even with her being in a new place, the wind howling, it was snowing, semi trucks rumbling by and her buddies calling out for her, she focused on us and was a good girl. We can tell you that she direct reins only, no neck-reining. She also did not seem to understand how to back up. Other than those couple of things that are simple to work on, she did very well and we think she will make someone a wonderful horse. There is very little she cannot do physically. Attached Images:

Fanny will need to be conditioned and worked into any work, because she has just been sitting around doing no work at all for quite some time. She shows no signs of any arthritis or lameness or any issues at all. I do not see why doing some little jumps like that would be a problem, once she is physically conditioned for it. Fanny has not worked physically hard her whole life, just some trail riding (I used that word "just"), but nothing extreme, and nothing that would cause wear and tear on joints or anything that we can see. |

It was Fanny's fun day here at the farm yesterday, 3/4/2012. She came out and got a good grooming and then was also ridden for a while. We have gotten some of that snow and slop over the past few days and without an indoor we don't have great footing anywhere, but she was able to be ridden at a walk and a little bit of trot in the round pen. Fanny did really well. She is a really level-headed mare who does listen to her handler and look to her handler. Her training is a bit rough around the edges, but she behaves very well under saddle and does not question her rider. She was a little anxious with being saddled up at first, but settled right in a very short time. She is a pretty laid-back horse under saddle.
Here is a picture of Fanny being ridden yesterday, 3/4/2012:

I can't believe no one commented on Fanny's picture! I was looking for a page 2 for comments and there weren't any! Do you think she would do well with a greener rider if they had help to develop her training more? |

Lindsey, that is always such a hard question to answer because there are so many different shades of green, and every person is so individual in that respect. I can say that the person who rode Fanny in her previous home from time to time was an inexperienced horse person and they did fine with her. So much depends upon the person and what their horse sense is and how they relate to horses, confidence level, etc. Fanny has easily become one of my favorites out here in the pasture. She is one really super sweet mare that I think anyone would be really happy and lucky to have as an equine partner. I cannot express what a sweet personality this girl has.
We have ridden Fanny a couple of times now and never once does she ever even think about doing anything like bucking, rearing, dancing or anything at all in the line of misbehaving. She pays attention to her rider and listens very well. Like I've mentioned, she is not "fine-tuned trained", but she is very well behaved under saddle. It seems that she is not used to a plain snaffle bit, and we can only guess what she was ridden with, but she did even back up under saddle a little bit the last time she was ridden (which she did not understand the first time out).
I really can't say enough good things about this mare, she is a gem.
I also forgot to mention her age. Please do not let her age hold you back. Fanny was in her last home for most of her years and has never done any really hard work, just leisurely trail riding, so she has no wear and tear on any of her joints and is in really excellent physical shape (other than not being conditioned from lack of exercise). She is going to have a lot of good years ahead of her. |

I missed the riding photo. She sure looks good. Definitely don't let the age scare you. My 24 year old Morab mare is an easy keeper, and my 17 year old Morab gelding will be going to South Dakota again this summer. Neither act their age. |

Fanny got adopted today! Doni and her friend Sam came and met Fanny today and seemed to have a lot of fun riding her. Fanny poured on the charm of course, and it looks like a great match! :) Fanny will be leaving as soon as we can all coordinate a ride.
We look forward to hearing of Fanny's new life with Doni and Sam! Thank you so much for choosing adoption!
I did take some riding pictures, but I think I only had permission to post the official adoption photo. Don't Fanny and Doni look great together?! Here they are from today, 3/21/2012:

Fanny says, "What are we waiting for?? Let's do this thing!" and Doni looks so happy :D Very happy heart right now, glad that Fanny seems to have found such a nice home! Maybe all the Fanny fans (har har har) can convince her to let you post the riding pictures ;) Huge happy face for this beautiful girl either way! |
