Iorek - 22 yrs.

Date of arrival (1-21-2012)

Iorek (pronounced (your rick) is a Percheron/TW cross gelding. He stands 15.2 HH. He is very willing and just about anyone who knows how to ride can ride him. Being half Walker, he is also gaited. We have not yet had a chance to test ride him to see what his gaits are yet, but will update when that does happen. Iorek also has some issues with his feet and we will not make him available until we know exactly what those issues are and have them ready to go. In the meantime, we hope that you all watch for updates on this neat old guy. Posted below is a photo of him from summer when he is all shed out.

Cute and fuzzy in the winter, and handsome in the summer!

Iorek has settled in really nicely already.  He has made friends with Caramel and with Chloe so far.  He doesn't seem to be low man on the totem pole, but certainly not a trouble-maker or trying to be top of the ranks either.

We will keep you all updated as we learn more on Iorek.  The farrier will be here on Monday and we will give a report after that as well.

Here is a picture from today, 1/23/2012, of Iorek and Caramel Corn.  Iorek has a little dinner on his face!

what a cute pair!  does anyone know what Iorek means? or what nationality (if any)  ...  interesting name... I like it!

Jamie, the name is from some movie, not a movie I've seen so I can't remember, but some kind of warrier bear or something along those lines.  :)

Thanks Karen... I think it fits him then....how tall is he?  By percheron/walker cross I expected him to be tall, but standing next to caramel, he looks smaller like 14 something hands.

Jamie, unbelievably I can actually answer that (and we will add that in his description), because we measured him when he came in.  He is 15.2, but he's a bit sway-backed.  :)

I love Iorek!  He is so handsome!  Can't wait to see his progress!  I would so love to make him mine!  (Isn't Iorek a Shakespearian character--from Hamlet?)

Yes it is, but I think it is spelled differently in Hamlet.

I think this version of Iorek is from The Golden Compass, the Polar bear's name is Iorek Byrnison (he asks one of the main characters, "Do you want to ride me?")

Yes, Chris has it, The Golden Compass.  :)  His donors told us where he got the name and said it was a movie and a bear, but I could not remember because I have not seen the movie.

I know things are busy there...I've been wondering though what the farrier had to say about Iorek and if the vet has seen him yet? He certainly is a handsome boy.

Iorek is not yet listed as available because he had previously foundered and needed some hoof work done. He has had one trim since coming here and will need at least one more before we will be able to evaluate what his long term needs and limitations will be, if any.

What is estimated time for him to be available?

We can only give an estimate, but probably about 4 weeks...we'll surely know more in the next couple of weeks.

Iorek will be with us for a while yet here at the farm.  He will be having his feet x-rayed next Tuesday to see where his coffin bones are at before he leaves for his new home.  We will update further after that, and hopefully have some fun adoption photos too!
