Update: 9-13-2018

Although we never really made it official, we have decided that Cheyenne needs to stay here and be a permanent resident of MHWF. She is now in her mid 30's and is happy, healthy and loves it here, so she will stay here for the rest of her days.

Lovely!  I had not seen the video on this thread until now.  It is very beautiful.  I love my senior horses and get so much reward from my time with them.  It is fun to pamper them and I really feel that they are grateful.  More people should try it.

We have some very unexpected and sad news to share this afternoon.

Cheyenne has passed away.

We had to put in an emergency call to the vet this morning to get them out here to clear choke on Cheyenne. It took a while to get her cleared, but it seemed to work. All we had to do is wait for her sedation to wear off and get her started on some antibiotics.

While we waited for her to come out of sedation we made a quick trip to the post office and right back home to check on her. We pulled the car right into the barn and jumped out to see how she was doing. It was not good. She was down and could not get up. Her tongue was hanging out of her mouth and her respirations were very, very labored. She seemed to be in a lot of pain and we felt that we had no choice but to lay her to rest.

This one is a lot tougher than most, not only because we remember how bad Cheyenne looked when we first met her, and how she blossomed with proper care to become one of the leaders in the herd, but also because we have grown very fond of her and her sassy attitude. Up until today, she was fat, sassy, bossy and loved to complain if we were a few minutes late for chores. We dd not see this coming and are posting this before the shock of it has a chance to settle in.

Cheyenne will be missed a great deal around here and losing her today is a hard pill to swallow at the moment. We have made arrangements to rent the mini-excavator and she will be buried here where she lived out her last years with her buddies.

Goodbye Cheyenne, we did our best and hope you know how much you were loved and admired.

I am so saddened to hear of the loss of Cheyenne.  She was a special lady, without doubt, and will be missed and remembered fondly for years.  My sympathy to all of you.

You did a great job on providing Cheyenne with what was probably the best 1-1/2 years of her life. She came from looking like a horse that wasn't going to make it to a shiny coated horse in good weight that was not afraid to show how she was enjoying life. I loved watching her canter up at feeding time as much as looking at photos of her transformation. We will all miss the old gal.

I'm so sorry. Nothing I can say will help the hurt or going through such a tragic day, but I will say thank you for being there for her. Many aren't so lucky. RIP sassy girl, you will be missed.
