Dakota (Ducky) - 15 yrs.

$500 - Dakota, or Ducky as he is called, is a 15 year old Halflinger/Saddlebred gelding. He stands at 14.2 hands tall, is current on all his shots, de-wormers and has a new Coggins. Dakota is sound, very healthy and very well broke. He has been in the same home for the past 10 years and has been on endless trail rides, has been in fun shows and has been used for equine soccer league. Ridden on the roads, trails and over-night camping trips, Dakota is a reliable horse in every situation. His adopter can no longer keep up with his board and family medical bills and chose to donate him. He is a great all around horse, easy going, experienced and built like a tank. While he is not a horse for a brand new rider, anyone with some time in the saddle will do well with him. He leads, loads, ties, is good for the vet and farrier and has been trained and handled the right way. Ducky is a really nice horse and will be someone's pride and joy.

I’ve known Ducky for several years and have been on countless trail rides and camping trips with him. One of our last rides was to Lake Superior. When other horses were concerned about the large waves hitting shore, Ducky kept his head in the game and handled the situation with confidence. He is a very nice boy. Someone is going to get a gem of a horse. Sugar Bear and Raven will miss him but I’m looking forward to following the next chapter of his life.

I can say that I saw something that really impressed me here at the farm when Ducky arrived.  Our big goat with the giant horns named Goliath was in "show off" form when Ducky arrived and was running around, jumping, bucking, you name it.  In general, about 90% of the herd is afraid of Goliath - in the respect that he freaks them out and such when they see him.  Ducky's owner was leading him from the driveway right past Goliath when Goliath was acting up.  His owner was able to keep him under control and then actually bring him over to the paddock to meet Goliath face to face.  He really trusted her and calmed down to meet that crazy creature with the giant horns and funky smell.  I can name a very long list of horses that wouldn't have gone so well for.  lol  What a good boy.

Oh my!  Does Goliath still smell bad?  I thought he was neutered and bathed last fall?!

Carla, Goliath has barely any smell left at all - we just need to bathe him now once it's warm enough out.  Goliath looks quite different than anything most horses have seen though, that's for sure.  The horses who've lived here for some time are used to him now.  😉

I will miss Ducky a lot, but hope he finds a person to bond with like we did.  I have to say I nicknamed him Ducky because he reminded me of the character on NCIS, Dr Mallard-who they called Ducky. Smart, quick minded, but not a manly brute! Dakota seemed too tough for him....he's just Ducky!

Ducky is such a cool dude, and today he is an adopted cool dude!  It was Ducky's lucky day, and his appointment with Todd went great!  Ducky didn't leave MHWF yet, but he will be heading home with Todd soon.  Todd was looking for just the right horse for him, one that he could enjoy some trail riding with and now after meeting and riding Ducky, I'm sure they are going to have a little fun with Dressage as well.

Even though it was a very yucky and rainy day, we did Ducky and Todd's adoption day photo in the rain, and I'm throwing in a couple of riding pics too.  They just look so great together, and Todd's friend Gail had some fun riding Ducky too!

Thank you so much Todd, we are so happy that we could find the right match for you, and a big congratulations!!

Dakota (Ducky) - 16 yrs.

$600 - Dakota, or Ducky, is a 16 year old Halflinger/Saddlebred gelding. He stands at 14.2 hands tall, is current on all his shots, de-wormers, trims and has a new 2020 Coggins. Dakota is sound, very healthy and very well broke. He has been in fun shows and has been used for equine soccer league. Ridden on the roads, trails and over-night camping trips, Dakota is a very reliable horse. Ducky was adopted last year (2019), but sadly his adopter had to bring him back because of some family health issues. he took excellent care of him and had some great trail rides on him as well. Deciding to bring Ducky back was not an easy choice and his next adopter will be getting a real gem.
