I am going to start a new thread here for the indoor arena progress!  There are other threads out there with information on them, but there are multiple threads so here we go with a new one to keep the progress updates.

Today is Friday, 5/5/2017.  This coming Monday, 5/8/2017, the excavator person, Lee, will be coming to start the work on the ground.  Ground breaking!  This is very exciting.

We had Lee out a couple of times, and we have really good news.  We are going to be able to put the arena where we originally wanted it, out behind the barn and barn paddock area.  The reason we will be able to do this is because we will not need as much fill around the sides of the arena as we would have in the other spot.  This is a far better spot for the arena for multiple reasons, ease of use and us being able to see the horses out in the pasture easily being a couple.

So, we have been prepping the area to get ready for the big day on Monday.  We had to move the panels from the paddock out of there from behind the barn.  We moved the panels over to make a fence line with a gate so that we will be able to keep the horses out of the area during the work being done.  The horses will not be able to access the auto-waterer during the time they will be need to be locked out of that area, but we will put a water tank out for them.  We will also have to take a portion of the wooden fencing down because some of the equipment is too big to fit through the gate.

I have taken some pictures to illustrate what I've explained above, and I also included the old drawing that Scott did to show where the arena was going to go and corrected it to show where it is going now.

Very, very exciting!!!!!!  Thank you all for making this dream of MHWF's a reality!!!

How long are you estimating it to take til being finished?  Weeks or months?

Lots of hard work now, but each day brings it one day closer to that dream becoming a reality! [biggrin]

Carla, we really don't have an estimate on time because there are so many factors that will play into things, and weather being one of them.  I can say what we hope the time frame to be, but I don't even want to do that.  Being cautiously optimistic, we are hoping to see this project complete by July.

We got hit really hard with flooding rain this spring, so that has not helped things at all.  If it had not been for the terrible weather, we could have started much sooner, but it is what it is.  Let's hope for good weather for a stretch now!!

It is no fun being all torn up, rearranged and a mess, but it will be so worth it!

Over the last three days things have been crazy busy, starting on Saturday.  We had lots of adoption appointments on Saturday, then on Sunday had to do rabies on all of the horses and vaccines on horses who arrived without theirs (we split up vaccines), and then we trimmed the whole herd on Monday.  Being out of whack and things torn up made all of these things a lot more difficult than they normally are with having no paddock area and everything being a mess, but we thank our volunteers for all of their help and understanding through this time of construction.  They never complain and always make a great time out of things no matter the task and no matter the obstacles presented.  We are so lucky to have such great people in this program, you all rock!!

Here are a couple of quick snaps from my cell phone taken from the back door of the very beginning!

Lots and lots and lots of loads today.....good progress, except the culvert at the end of our driveway cannot handle the heavy dump truck loads and is collapsing. If you pull into our driveway, do it slow until we know how this is going to play out [smile]

I really is fun to watch the whole process. Especially knowing how much it will help with adoptions throughout the year.

About that  collapsing culvert--maybe great big sheets of metal?  I suspect your haulers have seen this before.

So far, it looks like the culvert is done collapsing. Right now it is not bad and if it holds up, we can get by without having to get the permits, spend the money on a new one, dig it up and back fill a new one......hoping.

It's official, the site prep is now complete!

Only two things left before we can start to put the arena together....

1. Put some fencing back up so the horses can come up again....

2. Wait nervously for the bill (yikes). Hoping we did not go too far over budget.

Everything looks really good though and this place looks very different to us right now.

The arena is really going to look nice when you get it done.   Like everything else, it takes and work but will be well worth it and something that will last for many years when completed.   We hope Mother Nature will play fair and give you several good days to work on it.

Well, we just got our copy of the bill for all the work that was done over the last week and 1/2 and wouldn't you know it, we went $5,820.00 over budget.

If there is anyone out there who would like to pitch in and help with this bill, we certainly appreciate the help and generosity, and there is still room for more names on the wall plaque [smile]
