PBS is showing a series called "The Secret Life of Farm Animals."  It's set on several small farms in Wales where the animals lead fairly natural lives on pasture.  So far they've covered sheep and cows, with pigs up next.  I'm looking forward to what they will have to say about horses.

There's interesting stuff on unexpected abilities (sheep can recognize pictures of flock mates, for example), communication skills, cross-species interactions, pecking order, defensive mechanisms, learning and cooperation.

Watching this show reminded me that just about all of our domestic animals are herd/pack/flock creatures.  Could they even be domesticated if they were't?  Cats are the only exception I can think of, though I sometimes wonder how domesticated they are.
Sounds interesting. I will watch for it.
