Shannon, Do you have Bill Oakley's phone number? I would hate to get set up with a farrier, and then end up switching because they are moving! Thanks so much! |

well i finally found a barefoot trimmer although he is about 1 hr. 45 min. away. i had him come out today and work on my horses feet. little did i know i would get a lot of education about a horses foot. this guy is great, he doesn't just come and go, he actually cares that the owner understands what he is doing and talks to them. he explained that my horse is alittle short in the toe and long in the heels. he said the next time that he comes he will bring some books along to show me how the hoof looks in the inside. it was so nice to have someone care, and not be in such a rush to get done and leave. another good thing is that he only charged an additional $15 for the long trip. |

| #29 | Midwesterners are losing another excellent farrier to the West!
After Bill Pettijohn left the Merrill area for Colorado, I began using Ben Schroeder. Ben does a fantastic job but he too is moving to CO after the first of the year.
I actually live east of Wausau but am on the hunt for a new farrier - again. I believe both of these guys went to the OK Farrier school. Both did centered, balanced trimming and I was tickled pink with their work. None of my horses ever encountered hoof problems.
Any suggestions or recommendations?

| #30 | Say it isn't so?!?! I had heard rumors that he was moving. I use Ben too and really liked the job he's been doing, plus the horses all love him too!! Of the farrier's I've tried, my mare behaves the best with Ben - he's so easy going.
I'm starting to think I should go to farrier school, lol.
Diane, there are a couple farriers in the area to choose from:
Dave Schreiner - although I've heard he's not really taking any more clients and he can be hard to get a return call from.
Tom Bayer (I'm pretty sure that's what his name is) - I've never used him but a couple friends of mine have.
Then there is another one, his name is John. I used him at a barn I boarded at for a short time. Don't know his last name. He had a young man that worked with him that was learning the trade, so not sure if John is still doing the trimming or if this young man has taken over.
Let me know if you'd like any phone #'s. Also, I'd be interested if you find out about someone else too. |

| #31 | I wish it weren't true! I've trust few farriers like I do Ben.
I could tell Ben which horses needed to be trimmed, leave money in the barn and he'd come and take care of business when I wasn't home.
I'd appreciate any phone numbers you can provide.
Thanks much! |

| #32 | I'll have to get Tom's # from my friend.
Dave Schreiner's # is 715-627-1092
John's # is: 627-4045 . . . . not sure if he's still doing trimming or not, but I'll contact someone that was using him to find out. |

I've heard this from 3 people before seeing this online. I have an appointment for the 11th with Ben an he never called to say he wasn't coming. I've heard he stood up a few other people. I called his number an a message said he would be back on the 8th. I'm going to wait to until mon or tues an call again. Really ticks me off cause I've lost a really good guy before to California when his wife didn't like it here in Wis. I use to use Jim from Medford but he didn't return a call so that is why I started using Ben an I heard that he may not be doing either now or may be moving. With having a navicular horse I need someone that knows what they are doing an I schedule every time when Ben is done for the next time. |

Michelle you were lucky he showed up. I had an appointment for 12 today an he didn't show up or call. I had called an left a message earlier that I had an appointment an was looking forward to seeing him an that if he couldn't make it to call an let me know. I got the horses in, haltered an in stalls waiting for him an after a no show, took the halters back off an let the horses back out. I sure would be interested in finding another farrier that knows what he's doing since I have a navicular horse an one with calcium on knee which cause Comet to put more weight on other foot causing that hoof to flare out. |

I had one incident that he didn't show, but otherwise I have never had any other problems. He did recomend someone else, and said that he would get me a new guys number the next time he is out. I have a line on another one otherwise too, just waiting to get the name/ number from my friend. |
