The pictures of Janie and Scott are very touching.  And to be honest the name Janie is kinda growing on me.  It's very simple and classic. I love her head! Long and intelligent, very classic too.  She does look a lot like the buggy horses used by the Amish that i've seen.  My uncle lives in Amish country. Thank you for taking her in.

We also love the name Janie, but that is Scott's mom's name, so it is a little different for us to call her Janie.    Before little Janie arrived and before we ever saw her, (when I was thinking that she was an Arab), I had a few feminine Arabic names picked out for her, but I'm not so sure any of these names fit at this point.  Shaden (young gazelle).  Nadirah (one of a kind--rare).  Suriah (mystic).  Amirah or Emira (princess).
As we get to know her well will be able to tell what her name will be.
This is going to be a long haul with little Janie, and we want to thank everyone again for your kindness, caring and support throughout this situation.

Oh I know that feeling with names, my husband and i are trying not to duplicate baby names right now. He has a BIG family.

What about just naming her Gazelle?  I think that would fit her too!

I love all of those names for an Arab girlie.  Very exotic.  But Janie fits this girl too.  Keep up the good work!

I may be to late for offering a name, but I have always like this name:
Shokie - it is an Indian word meaning born to be free.

I just think Jane Doe is so cute and fitting of her story. What about calling her Doe if Janie is confusing because of family? Just a thought. Jane is a cute name though. Good luck! Time will offer the perfect choice.

Rachel--I know what you mean about the names. We're looking to at least narrow down a short-list for our baby due in September and with two huge families, differences is taste, and the fact I'm a teacher which makes or breaks so many names, it's nearly impossible. I'm always nervous about naming pets too because I may someday want a child with that name--it's so silly!

On another board where there has been talk of this little girl, someone mentioned this horse was out for training and got out. But they also said this horse is now back in the pasture at home as of FRIDAY.

I'm confused.

Crystal, I'm not sure what the confusion is.  No one has stepped forward to claim the horse that we have here that was running loose in the Town of Hull in Portage County, and she is here, safe and sound.  What "board" are you talking about?, and maybe you can point me to that board so I can end any possible confusion of mistaken identity of horse(s) being talked about there.  I can assure you that Jane Doe is right here and no one has stepped forward to claim her, and no one has sent any information to us regarding anything at all about any training facility situation that you mention.  Please send me an email at karen@equineadoption.com with any information that you may have.
Thank you.

Crystal- I think i saw the same post as you.  I had to come here and check to make sure.  They must be talking about a different horse.  Which makes it even sadder that there are apparently more and more horses possibly being set loose??

Sara-We didn't want to be too strange and just make something up either.  Or first son's name is Honor.  We love it!  Our babie is also due in Sept. and it's getting harder and harder to be somewhat original without being totally crazy.

Thank you so much Crystal and Rachel.  I got over to that board and read through and posted, so hopefully that person who thinks she has information will contact us.  I will not have time to get back there and check that board until probably tomorrow, so hopefully she (or someone else) will email me or even call us.  Feel free to list our phone number as well if you are on the discussion again (though I do see our website is listed there a couple of times, thank you guys!).  715-884-2215.
I will not go on to speculate any more, but like I mentioned earlier, as this situation progressed, the owner may be afraid to step forward for a variety of reasons.
Just for the record, I do not believe that Jane Doe was "set loose", and to let you all know this is not any kind of a trend or anything of the sort that has been going on that we have seen at all.  My best guess is still that Jane Doe is a horse who got loose from her pasture/home, or wherever she was, and the owner did not come forward to claim her for a variety of reasons.

Thanks a bunch everyone, we truly appreciate you all!  We will keep you all updated on any news or progress.

How is Jane doing as far as recovering from her injuries?

Janie is doing well recovering from her physical injuries.  She is on a course of antibiotics yet and her wounds are continuing to be treated.  The wounds on her hind-end are healing nicely and no infection developed in those and is not going to.  She came in with the bad wound on her front leg that was not brand-new (she sustained it while out running loose before being captured), and it was already infected and it already had a little bit of proud flesh, but it is doing well and even though it has only been a couple of days it is looking better already and the swelling in the leg has gone down quite a bit and the limp is clearing, so the pain is also diminishing.  We got all of the woodticks off of her also.

Emotionally, Janie is coming around also.  She is now not completely losing her mind when we treat her wounds and coming to accept the help.  She is no longer trying to climb out of her enclosure when someone approaches and will actually walk towards us when we approach her.  We are beginning to concentrate work on her right side, as she would "blow up" when anyone would try to approach her right side and go into complete flight mode...that is also getting much better at this early point in time.  Janie came in very, very head shy and I don't know that this has anything to do with her ordeal of running loose and that trauma, but this is very slowly becoming better.  We are also working on desensitizing her mouth and she is already accepting a thumb in the side of her mouth very, very well.

Just a really quick update on Jane Doe..........

She is starting to settle in pretty quickly now. Today is the first time that when we went to feed and water her that she did not run to the other side of the pen and wait until we were done. She now stands there, paying close attention, but stays put until we are done.

Normally I am not a "treat" person, but in a case like hers they can work wonders. She now looks to us for comfort and companionship. She is still leery of us, but let's us approach her and touch her. We can now pet her on her face and head and down her legs and even over her back and under her belly. She lets me check her mouth and will take treats for a trick. Show her the treat, point to her nose, and she will curl her lips up for you every time and thinks shes funny. It sounds foolish, but it puts her at ease and lets her relax and even become a bit playful which is a far cry from the scared little filly we met late last week.

It's only been a few days and she has come farther then we thought she would already. More to come..............

Guess who taught her the trick.    It does sound silly, but I love to see her be a bit of a silly heart...it is so refreshing and she really enjoys it.  I was amazed at how fast she picked it up, and whenever we do this she is so relaxed and it feels great.

I think maybe we will have to get a short video clip tomorrow of Janie smiling for you all and share that here.

Dog/horse trainer extrodinaire(sp).  Doesn't shock me at all.  You have your way with the animals Karen.  I would love to see her trick for sure!!!  Man, all I can think about is how happy this little girls life will be now, and how the past is the past.  What a great ending/start that you guys got her.  Life will be/is good.  Dang it Kay!!!!  Where are the tissues!!!

lol  good thing we've seen photos of you standing by her - so we have proof you do get a chance to work/play with Janie too!   Silly Karen

Any update from that lead of where she may have come from?

She has such a sweet look to her, someone will have a true friend when she finds her new adopted family.  Fate definitely played the role to have her find her way to MHWF!  One lucky filly!  Welcome to "The Family" Janie!!!
