2009 MHWF Hay Drive

If you have been a supporter of MHWF for any amount of time, then you probably already have a good idea of what we are about to ask. It's that time of year again. Time for the MHWF Hay Drive. The Midwest Horse Welfare Foundation is involved in a lot of things like online auctions, rescues, adoptions, all kinds of things. As important as all of those activities are, none of them come close to how important the Hay Drive is to this program. Put simply, without it, we do not exist and cannot continue on without this ultra-important fundraiser.

Each year we feed approximately 350,000 pounds of hay and 24 tons of grain, not to mention medicines and supplements. This burden carries with it a huge bill which is clearly our largest expense and one that we struggle with and work toward paying throughout the year, every year.

This year we are working on securing our hay a few months earlier than in previous years. By securing what we need for the long winter months a little earlier, we save quite a bit of money, because we are able to buy larger amounts at smaller prices. We have done just that, we have struck several deals on all the hay we will need for the winter. Now the really hard part....paying for it before the people who are giving us these good deals back out and sell at higher prices to someone else.

So that is where we hope all of you come in. There is no way to sugar coat it and no way to make it sound any prettier than what it is. We very much need all of you to dig in just a little bit and help us raise this money.

We know times have been a little harder for most people this year more than other years, and this year has been particularly hard on our programs and other programs like ours. So your help and support means more now than ever. Whether you can spare $5.00 or $5000.00, it all helps and if everyone does what they can, we can reach our goal. It's really that plain and simple.

So please help out as often as you can and as best you can. It is for a good cause, feeding horses who needed a second chance. We can think of no other good deed that means more to the horses in this program and the volunteers who lose sleep at night worrying about what is to come. Please help spread the word as well. Tell your friends, cross post, whatever it takes.

Thank you in advance for your time and your continued support. MHWF and it's volunteers need your help and have never forgotten why we are here and what our mission is. We will never forget who it is that makes this all possible. It is all of you, and we thank each and every one of you who have supported us over the years for that. Thank you and have a great fall and winter!!!

Last year we spent almost $12,000.00 on hay! This year, if we can raise the money in time and secure the hay, we will save quite a bit of money and can get what we need for $9,500.00. That's a huge savings and we can do this with your help.

Thank you for your continued support.

Well shoot.....I am a bit slow on the postings these days, but I was planning on getting some doe in the snail mail...I'll get right on that....

PS  I've been working on a little fund raising of my own....I have never asked my friends to contribute to anything until now.....I don't know if I can get ya $1 or $5 or $500...., but I will try.  I am putting my solicitation together that shows some of the remarkable stuff you folks do....and, since most all my people have seen the girls after condition...most have not seen the before....sooooo, I was planning on pulling on some purse string...oops that is heart strings and seeing if I can get some doe sent on behalf of my girls.  With that said, I have pics of Janie before, but I do not have pics of Durango, so if you could be so kind as to email or post me the pic....it will be greatly appreciated......Thanks.

Of course I'll send money and will continue to as the drive goes on.  Each little bit adds up nicely.

It was pay day yesterday...Paypal on the way for the hay drive.  Scott, I forgot to write a note on the payment, what the money was for again.  This is what it's for!

My mom helped me take my money to the bank today (finally) to cash in my change. I had $9 in my "give" jar, so we put it in an envelope and mailed it for the hay drive today. I'm so lucky to have Candy, I want to help all the horses.

Tomorrow will be two years since my Fancy left me for greener pastures. I think of her every time I go into the barn and I miss her. In honor of her memory I'm sending $50.00 to the Hay Fund. My beautiful Fancy, you live on in my heart and in the wonderful photos that Karen took of us.

Thank you Gayle, that is so nice of you to think of the horses.  Fancy has a very loving, warm and huge place to be living in your heart.

WOW That is really amazing!!  I have a challenge of sorts for everyone on here.  I challenge everyone who owns horses to send $1 for every year they have had their horse(s).  I have owned Scooter for 3 1/2 years so I will send in $4 for him and Dixie has been on my property for a year so I will send in $1 for her.  I know I am not sending in a ton, but if we all send in a little, I'm sure we can put a dent into the rest of this payment very quickly this way.  Paypal is a great thing!

I've had my Arab for 10 years, my Quarab for 5, and my Nokota for 1.5...$20 on its way via Paypal.  Thanks for the nudge, Karen S.!!!

Great idea.....thank you. We are down to the last $2500.00 of the Hay Drive. Every penny counts and the remainder of it will almost certainly have to be made by private donations, whether they be $5, $10 or $50. The last $2500.00 will be the hardest to come by and we appreciate every penny as well as your challenges and ideas to get to that goal.

I sent my $5 via pay pal just now.  It is so easy. It only takes about 3 minutes.  And I am not computer savvy.  You can print out a receipt for your taxes and be done.

Come on everyone! Even if you donated already, which I did, another few dollars probably make that big of a difference to you.  But think of the relief Scott, Karen and all of the others on the MW HF team will feel when it is done and over for the year!  We ALL know how great it feels when that "big bill" hanging over our head is paid off.  And think of how happy the horses will be this winter munching away on their hay!!

Linda Z. and friends! You are amazing! What a kind and heartfelt donation! And the challenge is a good one, Karen. Just had vetting and tooth work for all three, so will have to wait a week or two before I send in the challenge money, but it will get there.

I am going to try and get rid of all the horse magazines I have by selling them so I dont have to throw them away and then the money I hopefully get from them I will donate to the hay drive. They are collecting dust and taking up room so I hope they will help the haydrive even if it's just alittle, instead of being thrown away.

I shipped a little out in snail mail on Friday.  I believe it is important for all of us to dig, even if it is in the change jar, a little and give thanks for what we have.  That is what Thanksgiving means to my family and I gotta tell you it feels really good to give and HELP the HORSES.  I hope you are blessed enough to be able to help.

To your family from mine .... HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
